The candidatures for the 8th edition of the Orange Prize of the Social Entrepreneur in Africa and the Middle East (POESAM) are opened today and until May 31, 2018, in the heading “Orange Prize of the Entrepreneur Social “.

Awarded by Orange, this award recognizes innovative projects based on information and communication technologies to improve the living conditions of people in Africa and the Middle East, in areas such as education, health, agriculture, mobile payment or sustainable development.

The competition will begin with a national phase during which each of the 17 participating Orange affiliates will study the projects submitted in their country and then nominate three winners. This will be followed by a second international phase in which the winners of each country, a total of 51 winners, will be put in competition by an international jury that will award the POESAM grand prize to the three winners at the Africa Com Awards evening, which will be held in November in Cape Town, South Africa.

The three winners will receive, in addition to the national prizes, respectively € 25,000, € 15,000 and € 10,000, and will benefit from personalized support provided by professionals in the creation and financing of young companies for six months.

Bruno Mettling, CEO of Orange Middle East and Africa, said: “In 2017, 1,200 projects were submitted, 60% more than in 2016. Supporting talented startups is at the heart of the development strategy Orange. Every year with POESAM, we reaffirm our desire to be the partner of those who innovate in the service of the improvement of everyday life. “
