WenaData is an innovative research company, focused on obtaining all kind of statistical data. It´s an instrument that government, private sector and other institutions can use as an educational vehicle, barometer for the collection of useful information and help in making strategic decisions.
Forthis purpose, it was developed specific software, an website and a mobile application (android version), with a series of associated research tools. Although access to new technologies is expanding, there is a significant percentage of the Mozambican population without access to the internet, smartphones and computers, faced with this reality we also have the possibility to do studies on site or through USSD technology.
How did you get the idea to start your business?
The idea comes from a group of people with some projects in common. We wanted to start a business in an area that was not properly explored in our country, with a different approach to the market and that really made a difference. It took us about a year to develop the entire project. A trial version was initially released in July 2017 and on December 18 the final version was released.
Can you introduce your team?
As far as our team is concerned, we are people with backgrounds in different areas such as information technology, marketing and advertising, accounting and economics, we think outside the box and we always try to overcome all the challenges that are proposed to us.
What is the problem solved by WenaData?
It is very difficult to obtain real qualitative and quantitative statistical data in Africa. The process of getting data is very time-consuming, bureaucratic and has a high cost. The Mozambican market lacks services similar to ours, there are only small fragmented companies with specific services and do not offer a set of efficient solutions to complete ours. We can operate remotely at a low cost and environmentally friendly.
What is your business model?
We can be hired to conduct surveys, market research, social studies, advertising or even for real-time polls. As far as our customers are concerned, we can operate in vast areas of the market (B2B, B2G, B2E and B2G):
- Business clients that wants to better understand the market, in order to improve its strategic decision making. Optimize services/products.
- Government and organizations that wish to collect statistical information and take actions regarding training, teaching behavior and good practices.
- Companies internal analysis.
- Media seeking informational content.
- Advertising and campaigns for consumers.
What are the next steps?
We are currently operating only in Mozambique. However, we want to expand WenaData to other countries, as we believe it is indeed a very useful tool for society and add new valuable features. We have already been approached by companies from South Africa, Portugal, Angola and Cape Verde, wanting to make partnerships to replicate our business in their economies, we are studying the best options.
